Last weekend, Josh, Adam and myself took off on an adventure to the back country near a small lake outside Tahoe called Spooner Lake. Our destination: Wildcat Cabin, 3.5 miles somewhat uphill. :)

The cabin held intrigue and a promise of serenity and beauty beyond compare -- according the guy who encouraged me to use it.

We began our hike a little late in the afternoon, and the only between us and the cabin was a steep hill and many mosquitos living in the stagnant water halfway up the hill.  It wasn't an ideal hike in fact there was a bit of marital strife and some intense frustration as Josh carried a cooler up a hill that  may have been undersold to him as "an easy hike"  (He loves to share this story if you want to ask about it!)

However, once we made it up the hill, it was a beautiful cabin and the view was as described - incredible! In fact, the picture on this blog page is the view of Emerald Bay that we could see from the tiny rustic cabin. 

The main goal of the adventure was to share with Adam, just how much this past year meant to us. We wanted him to know how much promise his future held both that day and in many days to come in his future. This was more than a hike for sure but an opportunity to share God's truths with a young man who has spent many years hearing truths from a world of hurt. This trip also marked the conclusion of our "year together" as a family. I have a feeling our adventure with Adam is not over but it will be different in the future.

Josh and I are grateful for this season (and past year) and hope that the first year Adam spent with us in Nevada will be one that he will hold close to his heart as he continues to walk through the uphill challenges and even mosquito-like attacks that might come his way. Our heart and hope for Adam is that he will remember the beauty that God has waiting for him.
